On Wednesday, the Carson City Board of Supervisors and the Washoe County Board of Commissioners held a joint meeting to appoint a resident to the open State Senate District 16 seat.
Together the two boards chose to appoint Donald Tatro of Reno to the seat.
Carson City had nominated Robert L. Weise of Carson City for the seat during the Carson City meeting prior, but during the joint meeting both boards chose Tatro during the final vote.
According to Tatro’s application, he grew up in Carson City and now lives in Washoe Valley, and has history in the political sphere. He served as Deputy Press Secretary to U.S. Senator John Ensign in Washington D.C., Press Secretary to U.S. Senator Tom Coburn, and served as Executive Director of the Builders Association of Northern Nevada.
Within the community, Tatro serves as 1st Vice Chair on the ACE Charter High School School Board, chairs Reno Mayor Hilary Schieve’s Housing Task Force, sits on the Washoe County Manager’s Advisory Committee, and serves as 1st Vice Chair of the Reno Sparks Association of Realtors legislative committee.
The next Special Session of the Nevada State Legislature takes place tomorrow, Friday Nov. 12, to tackle redistricting.
