Several state and federal leaders are condemning violence after someone set fire to several Tesla vehicles at a Las Vegas service center using Molotov cocktails.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police and the FBI are investigating Tuesday’s attack, which left at least five vehicles damaged.
The incident is the latest involving Tesla, the car company led by Elon Musk, who has been working closely with President Donald Trump since he assumed office in January.
“We’re not ignoring the fact that there are clear factors that this could be politically motivated. We are going to investigate all aspects of this,” LVMPD Assistant Sheriff Dori Koren told reporters on Tuesday.
Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo slammed the attack and said he was grateful for the LVMPD and FBI response.
“This type of politically-motivated violence is despicable — and those responsible will be found and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Lombardo wrote to social media.
U.S. Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, D-Nevada also said she had full confidence in law enforcement to find the perpetrator.
“Let me be clear: these actions are unacceptable, and I condemn them fully,” Cortez Masto said.
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi released a statement Tuesday regarding attacks against Tesla property around the country, calling the incidents “nothing short of domestic terrorism.”
“We will continue investigations that impose severe consequences on those involved in these attacks, including those operating behind the scenes to coordinate and fund these crimes,” Bondi said.
