The Nevada Secretary of State’s office on Tuesday officially launched ‘Project Orion,’ a $15 million project to overhaul the state’s outdated business licensing system.
Secretary of State Francisco Aguilar said the two-year effort will streamline and improve the SilverFlume portal, which has been bogged down in recent years by bugs and crashes.
The initiative is also aimed at bring back some of the revenue from registered agents, who Aguilar said have taken their business to other states with more user-friendly systems.
“Because the system is outdated, it is broken, we’ve lost about 30% of our market share to states like Wyoming, North Dakota and Idaho because their systems are easier,” he said.
We want to bring that business back to Nevada. Nevada has some of the best business law in the country and we need to take advantage of that opportunity.
Aguilar held the launch event at Aye One Exotics, a streetwear and sneaker store in Sparks. Owner Michael Mendez told News 4-Fox 11 the system was challenging to use as a new business owner.
“It was a little bit hard, I would say I did have a good team on my side that helped me out with SilverFlume. I would say the overall business aspect, I’ve kind of always been an entrepreneur so it took me a little bit of an adjustment,” Mendez said.
The project also includes new security features, such as credit card prevention services. It’s expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
