Kris Sanchez, a member of the leadership team for the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, has been tapped as the next director for the Nevada Department of Business and Industry.
Gov. Joe Lombardo announced Sanchez’s appointment to fill the vacant post following Terry Reynolds’ retirement, effective Monday, Nov. 13.
“Kris has done outstanding work at GOED, helping elevate Nevada’s international profile and developing innovative and long-lasting economic development partnerships,” Lombardo said in a statement. “I know that Business and Industry will greatly benefit from Kris’ natural leadership and strategic thinking, just as GOED has.”
Sanchez has been with GOED for more than a decade and was most recently the deputy director. He holds a doctorate in public policy from UNLV.
The Department of Business and Industry is a cabinet-level agency in the state government. It encompasses 11 state agencies and 25 commissions, advisory boards and committees, including the Occupational Safety & Health Administration, the Division of Insurance, and the Taxicab Authority.
