Small businesses are worried about shoplifters. Nevada Democrats are worried about shoplifters going to jail.

That disconnect was on full display recently. Gen X is a clothing store on Decatur Boulevard. Store manager Omar Camargo said that thefts there happen routinely. The store and its employees are trying to stop them. At the front of the store are pictures of people who aren’t allowed to enter because of their past efforts to help themselves to a five-finger discount. The store also prohibits large backpacks and bags.

Governor will address SNAP benefits in a special session

Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo will call for lawmakers to address the gap in SNAP benefits for half-a-million Nevadans during a special session this month, according to a spokesperson for his office. 

FOX5 got confirmation of the item on a special session agenda, Tuesday evening. Earlier in the day, Nevada Senate Democrats announced proposed legislation to address the issue.

Clark County Commission fills vacant Nevada Assembly position

The Clark County Commission on Tuesday appointed a new Nevada lawmaker to serve out the term of former Assemblymember Toby Yurek, who stepped down from the legislative body last month.

The appointment of Assemblymember Jason Patchett, R-Clark County, arrived after Gov. Joe Lombardo indicated he plans to convene a special session as early as this month.
